Megan Chard

Is the first time you have had support from the Dave Rayner Fund?

Yes, this is the first time I have had support from the DRF and I am very thankful for it.

What is your cycling history?

I don’t really have much of a cycling history. I was the first person in my family to cycle competitively. I was inspired by the 2012 Olympics and decided that I wanted to take it up as a sport. It was difficult as my parents didn’t really know what to do, and neither did I so we had to rely on what everybody else was telling us. I met some amazing people which kept motivation high, and I started training properly in 2014, but this year has been a big step up into international and worldwide racing.

What team are you joining in 2017?

In 2o17 I will be riding for Isorex Ladies Cycling Team.

Tell us a bit about your team.

Isorex are based in Belgium and compete in prestigious cycling races such as omloop het nieuwsblad and other amazing races which are a privilege to ride. There are many different nationalities in the team with all different strengths and weaknesses. We are all willing to learn when racing with the best female cyclists in the world.

What are the details of the team Website/FaceBook/ Twitter and Instagram that we can link to?

What is your race programme looking like?

My racing calendar starts with three UCI races (Niuwsblad, hagenland and la samyn) which will be a big jump up from the racing that I am used to doing. I will then do some national races in the UK. I will be trying to balance some National, regional and UCI races as I think I am able to learn from all three. I will finish the season with the lotto Belgium tour in September.

Where are you going to live?

Effectively, I am living in two places. I will be spending half the year in the UK whilst finishing my first year at university and then I will be spending the other half out in Zingem. I will be spending a month in Belgium in Febuary/March, and then another month in April and once university is over I will be spending 3 or 4 months out there with a small break back to the UK for National Champs in Isle of Man.

What bike will you be riding?

I will be riding an S-Works Venge

Do you have any other interests outside of cycling?

I like a few other sports such as swimming and surfing, but when I am not cycling or doing any other sport I do like to go to cafe’s with my friends and have some downtime.
