Tom Bracegirdle

Is the first time you have had support from the Dave Rayner Fund?

Yes, this is my first year being supported by the Dave Rayner Fund.

What is your cycling history ?

I got into cycling when I was around 15 years old and began by just riding at the weekends with my Dad. I became a member of Warrington Road Club and started off doing time-trials as well as the odd criterium and junior race but it wasn’t until 2012/13 that I started racing seriously on the road. I’ve gained an enormous amount of experience these past two seasons and have also picked up a few wins and a number of respectable results racing across the UK and in Europe. After living in Belgium for a month in both 2013 and 2014 I knew that’s where I wanted to be for the whole of the 2015 season. I love the style of racing in Belgium and competing on the continent is a fantastic environment to further my development and also provides a greater number of opportunities than in the UK to turn professional and form a successful career in cycling.

What team are you joining in 2015?Tell us a bit about your team.

I’ve joined Team Handi-ness (formerly known as Terra safety shoes) for 2015. The team is predominantly English speaking with a mix of Brits, Australians, kiwis and an American which makes life in on the road and at the team-houses a little simpler.

Have they a website we can link to?

They don’t have a website but they regularly update their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/TERRA-Safety-SHOES/411159502350574

What is your race programme looking like?

The team’s race programme is a good mix of interclubs, top-comps and international stage races. I’m looking forward to doing some kermesses inbetween team races and at the end of the season as well.

Are you going on a training camp with the team?

I’ve not been on camp with the team but I did go to Alicante in January for two weeks with a team-mate.

When are you heading out to Europe/USA?

I’m travelling over to my team house in Ottenburg at the start of March.
