Jake Womersley

Is the first time you have had support from the Dave Rayner Fund?

Yes, this is the first year I've been supported by the fund

What is your cycling history?

I've always been interested in cycling, having watched my auntie Louise Robinson race since I was little and I've hearing stories from my grandad Brian Robinson. I've played a lot of sport at school but I've always wanted to keep racing. As a junior I was very keen on cyclocross, riding the European and world championships, but now I'm focusing on road having spent my first year of U23 in Britain while I finish sixth form.

What team are you joining?

I'm joining illi-Bikes cycling team for the season. This is one of the top club teams in Belgium with a very professional set up. The team has had some strong results over the past couple of years and has developed a lot of good riders in to the pro ranks.

What is your race programme looking like?

The team has a busy race programme starting in March and running right trough to the beginning of October, this includes Belgium cups, interclubs and I will also race some kermesses during the week.

Are you going on a training camp with the team?

I have a couple of training weekends early season with the team. I've also spent three weeks based in Majorca with team mate Jacob Scott in preparation for the season.

When are you heading out to Europe/USA?

I'm heading to Belgium on the 19th February, in time to get my race bike sorted and meet all the team before the first race.
