It was the young Scotsman Stuart Balfour (Côtes d’Armor Marie Morin Véranda Rideau), 21, who won the 17th Grand Prix Plouay Elite Open (Elite National). At the end of the 147 kilometer course, he was again riding solo ahead of Fabio Do Rego (CM Aubervilliers 93-St-Michel) and Enzo Bernard (Vendée U).
Stuart Balfour was part of the group breaking away from the other racers, starting from the 3rd lap with Enzo Bernard, David Rivière, Willy Artus, Alexandre Billon, Théo Nonnez, Adrien Quinio, Matthieu Jeannes, Jérémy Bescond and Fabio Do Rego. In the last push, he managed to go out alone and maintain his lead to for a strong finish. This is his 3rd win of the season, 2 weeks after his win at Montpinchon. Below is his thoughts on the race in the original French:
Stuat Balfour: “Ravi, vraiment heureux. Je la voulais cette victoire à Plouay, je savais que je pouvais la décrocher au vu du parcours. Je suis parti dès le 3ème tour avec une grosse échappée d’une quinzaine de coureurs. Puis le peloton s’est dangereusement rapproché. Dans le dernière difficulté, il y a eu une ultime attaque avec Théo Nonnez, j’ai contré et je ne me suis plus retourné car je savais que le peloton n’était pas loin.
Je suis heureux pour moi et le team. Mickael (Leveau) nous a vraiment appris le job durant cette saison et il y a une véritable cohésion au sein du team. On l’a assez démontré cette saison, non? C’est aussi pour eux que je voulais gagner, pour tout ce qui m’ont fait confiance depuis 2 ans et pour la DAVE RAYNER FUND.”
Votre futur? Avec le team Côtes d’Armor toujours la saison prochaine?
“Je ne sais pas. On verra. J’ai des contacts avec des teams pros mais rien de concret. Mais c’est vrai que je me sens bien ici en Bretagne avec les potes des Côtes d’Amor Marie Morin Vérand Rideau. Et mon coach (Yann Dejan) est Breton aussi (rires).”
