On November 10th, Leeds will hold host to the famous Dave Rayner Fund gala dinner. The fund (named after the young racer with a dream taken too early) serves young British hopefuls, helping them achieve their own dreams in cycling.
Through the help of the fund, hopeful young cyclists have ventured out across Europe. In France, they count among the ranks of Côtes d’Armor Marie Morin cycling AVC Aix en Provence, Hennebont Cycling, and AC Bisontine, Lotto Soudal U23 in Belgium, and SEG Racing Academy in The Netherlands. During the gala dinner, 500 people will be invited including the organisers of the next World Championship, including the Tour Director or Yorkshire, the Tour of Britain, and many former champions. Joscelin Ryan (The Dave Rayner Fund): « Outre nos financements privés durant la saison par nos partenaires, cette soirée de Gala sera aussi l’occasion de chercher d’autres sources de financement telles qu’une loterie et notre vente aux enchères. Ce sont des objets célèbres et rares tels que les maillots des champions, des œuvres d’art de « Grand Tour Art » et des expériences à vivre au sein des courses comme des invitations dans les voitures des directeurs de courses sur la classique E3 à Harelbeke, dans celle du Tour du Yorkshire, celle du Tour de Grande Bretagne et d’autres… Ce sont des lots qui nous permettent aussi d’aider les jeunes. Tout le monde se serrent les coudes pour qu’ils réalisent leurs rêves. »
Beaucoup de coureurs pros vous soutiennent
Joscelin Ryan: « Oui, énormément car c’est une belle mission non? Durant la soirée, d’autres coureurs nous apportent leurs soutiens comme Owain Doull (Team Sky), Ben Swift (UAE Emirates), Adam Blythe et James Shaw (Lotto Soudal) entre autre.
Notre président n’est autre que Brian Robinson et les membres de la fondation se composent d’anciens champions comme Sid Barras ou Keith Lambert
Nous avons reçu,aussi un grand invité Français en 2008 avec Raymond Poulidor qui était venu nous soutenir. Ce fut un un grand moment partagé avec son ami Brian Robinson. »
Pour 2018, qui sera désigné meilleur coureur parmi ces espoirs?
Joscelin Ryan: « Je ne peux pas vous le dire. Il faut attendre la soirée pour le connaître (rires). »
